The Social Dilemma
It couldn’t be harder. With KC up the street and the Mike down the street. Two locations, two people in our group running events and different types of tables.
It is difficult to split an already too small of a group. Loyalties are a sensitive issue, because we all want the person who puts out the money and effort to succeed.
Mike believes we will lose the Bull if it is not supported and KC believes he will lose the Blitz if the tables don’t bring in the revenue.
Many different forces at work here; personalities, emotions and feelers (technical word) will be damaged, bruised and stepped on. When this passes and it will pass, what will be left? Resentments, grudges, loss of players, loss of operators, loss of locations, but the worse will be the loss of friendships.
Nobody is asking, but here is my take.
KC is in need of generating revenue at a REALLY BIG BAR. If that kind of bar is not getting regular NONE players, that square footage is WAY TOO expensive to let none producing coin tables/games/video/ take away from eating or drink space. I like the idea of Foosball exposed in this environment. I wish they were Fireball but any Foosball table that gets exposure to crowds is good to me. Here is the problem, they don’t care. Big places all across the country don’t care about a game.
Mike is in need of support to help maintain the owner’s desires to keep Foosball in the bar. This size of bar relies much more on Dart player, Pool players and or Foosball players. This size bar requires players to settle in and come in on regular bases. The owner in most cases actually knows the players and the organizers. The smaller type of bar wants and needs Players to maintain its business overall, they are more willing to make it happen.
KC is in a tough place. I am trying to work out some solutions.
Mike has worked hard at building up Foosball at Nike and trying real hard to get leagues going. Mike worked at getting the Oregon State event on at Bull Mountain and everyone was satisfied. This was his very first event and it went well. Mike wants to work at getting a big event going at the beginning of October.
He would like to see support for his effort. I expressed to Mike, the Players are supporting him and they are supporting KC.
Looking at this as a Marathon. (Nike speak) We have to build support for the game first, the location second and the table last.
Fireball is not going to go away because I am here. We are going to have bigger events because this is exciting and fun for me too. Although, I pay for the fun the next day!
Some of you will read this once and move on. I hope you read it twice and understand we are all in this together. Like a family, we fight and a black eye or two later, things will work out. A family that plays together, sticks together could not be truer.
Best to KC and to Mike for their collective effort.
