I'm in Austin....stepped out of the aiport terminal into....95 degrees....did I mention this was a 1am!!! And then today the sun came out. It's been around 107 alll week here...today was no different, at about 10PM (well after dark, it was still 100 degrees.) I'm already sun burnt and miserable....well the company is good, and already had the brisket...which is marvelous....but damn it's hot! Supposed to take my friend's kids to this outdoor amusement part tomorrow....I'll post later if I survive it. Haven't played any foos down here....just drinking lots of liquids and hoping not to die.

Missed you. Okay, that is a lie, but it sounded nice.

Hey Floppy, let's hear how you're doing if you are playing those texans in any tournaments. I love it when NW players kick Texan butt,,,

Okay so first off, it's been stupid hot here the whole time I've been here. Day, Night, in my friends pool....it's all stupid hot. During the says it's been between 105-110 every day I've been here, no rain anywhere. (besides the monster heat, they're having a drought here) At night it gets down to a gloomy 90-something. My friend has a pool, he has the heater turned off....the water is 90 degrees. I think it's great...it's like swimming in a big jaquzzi....but his kids think the water is too hot, so we're trying to figure out how to cool it.
The one piece of good new is, we have a scooter. (actaully it's a huge scooter, almost goldwing size, and there is no helmet law in Texas!!!! That rules...if I had to put my head in a helmet at 105+ degrees I think it would pop. So I do a lot of riding the scooter around at night with no helmet. That's nice, if you keep the scooter moving the nighttime temperature with the breeze caused by the moving scooter makes it downright nice.
Okay enough about the weather. Foosball. I haven't really been going gung-ho to local foosball tournaments. In fact I've only been to two since I've been down here. I went to one weekly, where I took 2nd (in a pathetic effort, which I'm blaming my goalie for.) He kept wanting to play forward, and he's a nice guy and all, but we didn't lose any games when I was in front.
And this last weekend was a big tournament called "Foos-Fest" which drew players from the surrounding area. Not as big of a tournout a last year's foos fest, but a fair showing. I'd guess maybe 60-70 players. This is a busy foosball month here in the area. Okalahma St. was last weekend, next weekend is Runnaway bay, and the weekend after that is Worlds, so Foos fest had a little smaller turnout than last year. There were only three events at foos fest this year "Open Doubles", "Open Singles" and a last chance DYP if you were out of the other two events by 8 pm. (which I didn't play in) I dropped the ball "figuratively and litterally" a little in Open Doubles. (played with my friend Stacey who's a semi-retired rookie. The last time he played was with me at last years foos fest where we took 3rd. this year...no so good. Finnished out of the money but did win a few along the way and lost to a couple respectable teams. The funny part was both teams we lost to we skunked the first game. (I'm gonna go out on a limb here and claim I have focus problems.)
Singles went pretty well I beat Warren Van Landingham, and then lost to David Raddeck, but came back through the losers bracket and knocked off Raddeck to take 2nd. David Vick beat me, he's an old timer who's recently started a comeback a couple years ago. I wasn't very focused in the finals but none the less it was close, but I lost. David Vick is pretty much like playing Morgain, he's very VERY patient, deliberate, and methodical. He plays all four rods very well. He shoots a pull shot (like everyone else down here) and he's got a great 5. Much like Morgain you're in for a long hard lot of "work" to beat him...he's not going to give anything away cheap. And I wasn't up for it. It was late...I was thinking I was going to be outta there 2 hours earlier but single ran slow because Doubles held it up...and my buddy was waiting for me to leave.....And I was pretty happy beating Van Landingham and Raddock so I just didn't have the kind of energy and attention span it takes to really bear down for that kind of match. (I did have a shot to win the first match and take it to a second set, but I missed it...can't even remember what I did, but it didn't go in.)
Well, that's about it from Texas.....looks like more "Hot and pooptty" outside today.

Hey Flpoopy, try just adding water with the hose. The ground is a great insulater, and you many have noticed once you let the hot water from the hose run out, it gets back to [ground water] temperatures. It should help out with the pool temp a little, but it might be just enough for the kids....and you!
You REALLY should wear something on your head though when you ride. Maybe a bicycle helmet instead. Or wrap your wraps around your head. I'd hate it if the only time I could beat you was because you were playing from a wheelchair with a straw to steer it. You'd still have to spot me 4 points though.

Great job Floppy! I have beat David a couple of times - with both Jack and Robbie, but Warren - I think (?) we got him in OM in KY but then he adjusted and got us in the pro/am. Both great players and more importantly good people! David actually played with me last year in StL in the pro/am... great guy. Both super tough on the table.
Anyway, and more importantly, I lived in TX during the 1980 heatwave and the big thing to do was to have a pool party with an admission fee of a bag of ice... enough people and it did cool the pool down!
And I agree with Myk on the helmet thing - too many stupid drivers and folks that shouldn't have a license anymore down there... meaning old enough that even with glasses they can't see you on a bike/scooter or even a lincoln town car! At least when I was there, it was super easy to get your license renewed without actually having to show that you could still drive.

Nice win against Vanlandingham for sure...he must have had brisket grease on his hands.
I have a bunch of relatives in OK, AR and TX...I think there has been 50 or more days of 100+ degree heat. That's just brutal. Too bad drinking beer and eating chili only makes the dehydration worse.
I wonder what all those big football teams are doing about practice...no two-a-days. Ducks are moving up the charts without even winning games.

Hey don't worry kids. I was raised back in the era when "kids were tough"... No bicycle helmets, no helmets, knee, or elbow pads when we rode skateboards. No car seats. We were made tough....not like the nambie pambie kids of today. Look at George - Think he needs a helmet? You can shoot him in the head and it's no big thing. We were made tough back in the day Steel frames and metal body parts not like you new unibody plastic bumper babies of today.

when I was a kid, I rode to school in the back of my dad's pickup...he never stopped to let me out, just got close enough to the curb for me to jump. scars were badges of honor, nowadays they are just signs of abuse.

Issac, when it got too icy, back home in Wisconsin) the bus driver had me jump out while the bus was still moving so he wouldn't have to start from a standstill. As long as you didn't slip and go under the dualies you were alright. True story,,,
